Ain't No Thing - Week 7

This week we heard Malcolm Cloud, the Barstool Philosopher. By weekday, a truck driver, by weekend an amateur talk show host.

I gave him a B+, the best I've heard so far, with all due respect to the many others. He provided a common man perspective, starting with the smoking ban. When others begged for callers and got few or none, he got several, many of them very good callers. He showed great balance as well.

The only thing that kept him out of the A range was that he kept cutting off those interesting callers with abrupt "thanks for the call" responses, moving on before any dialog could occur.

What I think I heard was the basics of a good weekend show, that needs only a regular producer to make it work.

Good job, Malcolm!
Tony:
I have agreed with your analysis up to this point. I was acutally the most bored with him. I try to call every week but was thoroughly uninspired to even think much less call. I turned on the PS2 to give me something more to do.

Someone has got to start reminding me to listen to these things...

Tony, sorry I bored you... speed, thanks for the kind words. I agree with your comments about cutting off the callers too fast... more nerves than strategy, I must confess! Given a days reflection, I know that those callers had more to offer the subject and the show. Live and learn, huh? In self-evaluation, I thought my content was poorly prepared, perhaps not structured as well as it could have been...again, the callers would have helped that given the chance. What do y'all think?

P.S. Thanks for listening!

malcolm,
don't be sorry...everyone will bore someone. i think the thing that did me in the most was the topic hopping even within one segment.

Mitch Berg told me that people listening are very lazy...they don't want to follow many topics at a time. I thought he was oversimplifying but the more i listen to the next big thing the more i realize it is true.
