It's July: no politics until August.
Roll out those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer!

Sue Jeffers for Governor

Despite the sincere opinions held and reasoned arguments offered by many people that I truly respect, I am done with Governor Tim Pawlenty. I will be voting for Sue Jeffers in the September primary.

I'm not expecting an upset. I expect Pawlenty to win, maybe even win big. But I hope and feel that Jeffers' numbers will be surprisingly large.

You know the issues, among them being light rail, tax increases, stadiums, ethanol, and The Racino. He summed it up neatly in his recent infamous quote: "The era of small government is over."

In that same interview, Mr. Pawlenty tried to weave these deviations and flip-flops into a tapestry of a coherent philosophy. If his mission is that of a principled reformer as he claims, it is a rather personal one, on issues he feels justified in substituting his opinion for the collective wisdom and experience of his many supporters. But the simplest explanation is usually the best explanation.

"This is intensely practical, vote-driven behavior."
— Peter Hutchinson, Independence Party candidate for Governor.

"It's difficult for me to believe that each of these policies has come out of a deep-seated and well-thought-out concern for issues and long substantive analysis of solutions." — David Strom, President, Taxpayers League of Minnesota

I'm not saying that elected officials can't change their minds or chart new territory beyond their campaign promises. But not only does Pawlenty do this on an unprecedented scale, he adds some subtle but noticeable sneering for those of us who object. We are just not capable of understanding his, well, his "Vision of the Annointed."

I'm not mad as hell, but I'm not going to take it anymore.

I emailed her yesterday:

Hi Sue,

I posted this on Boots On yesterday:

I can take only so many knives in the back before I say enough.

Enough.

I plan to contact Jeffers and offer my space by the highway to place a huge Jeffers sign. This is not to support Jeffers but to punish Pawlenty-of-taxes. I'm sure he'll be reelected anyway, but it won't be with my vote.

Most of the crap Pawlenty has pulled has been of his own volition - he thought up these ideas, not Democrats and he was not under pressure to do so.

We must hold our officials accountable or all their promises mean nothing. We lose respect and become ignored. If nothing a candidate says can be trusted, then what is the point of Democracy?

I am not afraid of Hatch as governor, Pelosi as Speaker, Hillary as President. Our country is strong enough to overcome the damage they will cause. To believe otherwise is to have no confidence is democracy itself. Any of the three mentioned above will be so unpalatable that they should pave the way for a real conservative to move in; a Sullivan, a Gingrich, a Reagan.

Look at it this way, had Ford beat Carter, we'd have kept Gerald "there is no Soviet domination of Eastern Europe" Ford instead of Ronald "tear down this wall" Reagan.

Dare to stand for more than "less damaging."

Kicking out an incumbant is nearly impossible, even if you could get the endorsement. The Strib loves Pawlenty with good reason - he's one of them. They'll be sure to write many more glowing articles to see that he stays in. But you're a voice of discontentment that needs to be shouted as loudly as possible. So by all means, bring out the largest sign you have and stick in in my yard. I must have tens of thousands of cars passing by everyday (it's highway 12/394). Make sure to ring my bell so I can show your guys where to place it since some commie already complained to the city that 1/2 of my Stanek sign was techincally on Wayzata property, so we had to move it.

Pound on Pawlenty as hard as you can. He deserves it. And we deserve better. Good luck!

Well I have yet to hear back. Perhaps she wasn't happy that I pointed out that she wouldn't win. Or she's busy.

Anyway, no vote for T-Paw from me this year.

DrJon-

Sue has been EXTREMELY busy, as we are leading up to the state fair AND dealing with Pawlenty's foot-in-the-mouth quotes from Saturday's Strib article.

Any questions I can help you with, please contact me at laura [ at ] suejeffers.org

Thanks.

I gave up on Pawlenty two years ago. I was very glad when Sue Jeffers entered the race.
