It's July: no politics until August.
Roll out those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer!

Shift Change

Tonight we said goodbye to NYPD Detective Ed Green, so wonderfully played by Jesse L. Martin on "Law and Order" the past nine years. This series must be going on 20 years and it's been classic and classy American television throughout.

I again feel we've lost a friend, like wise-cracking Detective Lennie Briscoe (the late Jerry Orbach) and crusty old District Attorney Adam Schiff. But Executive Producer Dick Wolf seems good at finding more. His characters are real and human, not the pompous twits of the unwatchable CSI.

I stopped watching Law and Order around the time that Jesse Martin joined the cast, not sure why, just did. On the CSI shows, I think you can make a distinction between them. CSI:NY is the best of the bunch, anchored by the solid work of Gary Sinise. The original Vegas CSI has gotten to be self-parody (and David only watches it for Marg Helgenberger anyway!) CSI: Miami is over the top bad, bad actors, ludicrous plots but beautifully photographed. It's like the show is subsidized by the Greater Miami tourist bureau. Not so Vegas. It looks seedy on the show.

I haven't been quite the regular since Farina left, but Jesse was both cool and the kind of cop we'd like on our local police force.

I never watched the CSI spinoffs (or the L&O either) because the original poisoned the well. I know what David likes, all those half-unbuttoned blouses!
